We hosted the Bayou Bengals  on a gorgeous Saturday in Athens, Georgia over the weekend.
As usual, we rushed up to Athens after work and arrived about 2 hours before kickoff.
We got to have a short visit with my Uncle Greg and cousin Logan before the game.
I have to say this was one of the loudest games I've ever been to at Sanford Stadium.
It was such a great game-one of the best I've ever seen.
It was an emotional game, especially given the history of the quarterback situation.
In case you didn't know, LSU's starting quarterback, Zach Mettenberger, is from Athens and always dreamed of playing at UGA.
His mother actually works in the Athletic Department for Coach Richt, so Zach grew up in the midst of all the UGA action.
Zach made the team and was scheduled to start his freshman year at UGA playing for his beloved Dawgs until he made some big mistakes and poor personal choices.
Mark Richt had to ask him to leave the team.
So, 4 years later, Zach was finally getting to play starting quarterback in Sanford Stadium, except for an opposing team: LSU.
Aaron Murray, UGA's starting quarterback, and Zach were actually roommates before Zach was dismissed from the team.
You know, Mark Richt is such a class act that he told Zach's mother to take the week before the game off-not to come to work-so that she could focus on her son and not have to been in the rivalry environment in the days leading up to the face-off.
The Dawgs won 44-1 and it was crazy!!
I don't think I sat down the entire game and there wasn't a dry eye around us.
The best part was the team running over to the band, Aaron Murray running around giving high fives, and Mark Richt embracing Zach Mettenberger in the middle of the field and through tears telling him how proud of him is is.
I'm teary eyed just thinking about it!
It was so fun to be able to share another Dawg victory with Brandon's parents, both UGA alumni.
We love you, Mark Richt! Go Dawgs!!
