Georgia Peach Orchards

We literally live right in the Peach Belt of our state meaning that there are various major peach orchards and farms throughout our area.
45 minutes south of us is Lane Southern Orchards.
They are a major tourist attraction to passersby on I-75.
They sell a variety of fresh produce, peach pies, peach ice cream, and they have the cutest gift shop with lots of great things!
We left with a trunk full!
Beautiful rural Georgia.
A young peach tree.
I've shared about Dickey Farms here before.
It's the oldest packing house in Georgia and it's a sight to see.
Dickey Farms is a little farther west of I-75 than Lane's, but it's well worth the drive.
It's much less commercialized, has a down home feel, and is located in a tiny dot on the map called Musella, Georgia.
As you can see, it's an open air packing house with historic hardwood floors and fixtures.
Clearly I was a little too excited about my peach ice cream in a waffle cone.
Because it's open air, you can watch the peaches go through inspection and packaging.
It's really a neat process.
I can't express how much we love having these peach orchards so close to us.
In less than 20 minutes we can get peaches that have never ever been on a truck.
Needless to say, we buy quite a few boxes every summer and "put em' up" in the freezer to hold us over until the next season rolls around.
My heart breaks a little every August as the trees stop producing fruit.
It means summer is coming to a close and winter will be upon us before we know it.
As always, I begin eagerly awaiting Spring when the Earth comes to life again.
One thing is for sure, no matter the season we always support local agriculture.
Check the Georgia Grown site for local farmers in your area.

  3. I'm so glad you posted this! We moved to GA from CA almost 2 years ago and people from back home are constantly asking me "How are the peaches?" Well, we have yet to go to a peach farm, not knowing where they were located. I think we'll have to make a day out of it!
