A Day in the Life of a Veterinarian's Wife

I'm a little late in linking up over at Kelly's Korner, but after the Saturday we had I thought it would be fun to do a post as "A Day in the Life of a Veterinarian's Wife." I always work at the clinic on Saturdays, and most Mondays and Friday afternoons, and then I'm in and out of the office as needed in between. On Saturdays we leave the house around 7:30, which means I'm usually up between 6 and 6:30. If you know me you know this is a true act of love to get up at this hour. Typically I sleep until at least 9am most days. I'm a total night owl. In the mornings I'm about as productive as a snail.

Anyway, I get to see the sunrise when I'm up this early, and sometimes it's pretty, but it's not nearly as pretty as a sunset in my opinion. Yet another reason why I don't feel bad for sleeping past this hour on the norm.
Once we are at the clinic it's go-time. Nonstop action until we turn the locks and flip the Open sign to Closed. Our Saturday hours are 8-12:30. This past Saturday we saw over 20 appointments, 3 walk-ins, 2 emergencies, sent home 2 boarders and 2 hospitalized patients, filled at least a dozen scripts, plus flea and tick medications, and heartworm preventatives. After we closed the practice, Brandon and I did a farm call and pulled Coggins on 7 horses. All before 3:00. We were rocking it! It was freezing outside on Saturday!! Temps in the low 40s in Middle Georgia is cold to us! We couldn't feel our hands.
Oh, and did I mention it was just Brandon, myself, and one other employee that worked? Yeah, it was crazy in our practice. I never once even had time to look at the clock. Somehow I managed to call reminders for Mondays appointments and pull their files, and file back every file from that day. I also answered the phone, which rang off the hook, and scheduled several appointments for next week, including 2 new clients/patients! I thought y'all might get a kick out of a few funny questions/comments I have gotten over the past few weeks:
-"Hey, I think my dog is going through administration..." You mean menstruation?
-"Is there some kind of pill I can give my dog to make it abort if it's pregnant?" You mean a morning after pill? Nice. No, but we can spay her!!
-"I need to get my cat spayded today..." (a walk-in)
Oh me, you just never know!! :)
On Thursday I filled in for our lead tech, which means I got to assist in surgery. One of the surgeries was a leg amputation on a cat. I really had to man up for that one as I had to hold the cat and its shoulder while Brandon sawed the leg off. The cat is doing great and went home on Saturday! *Graphic pictures below that only medical field friends can appreciate :)*
After we finished the farm calls Saturday we went back by the practice to enter the invoice for the call and tie up a few loose ends. Then we decided it would be a good time to go to the movies. We never really go to the movies, but like every other girl, I've been dying to see Safe Haven.
There was a 4:15 showing and we made it just in time. The movie was really good. I've always had a major crush on Josh Duhamel. That is all I will say about that here. :) After the movie Brandon took me and my tear stained face to get some frozen yogurt at Tutti Frutti. I'm obsessed with those Fro-Yo places!
I needed to make an exchange at Lowe's, which is across the street from the theater and yogurt place, so we went there and picked up a few things. On our way home we had to go back by the practice and walk all the boarders. By the time we got home it was around 9. Brandon hung up some blinds in our bedroom. We had all but one window done because they didn't cut one set the correct width, so we finally got that straightened out.
We were showered and in bed and asleep by 10:30. What. A. Day. There really is nothing like climbing into your own bed at the end of a long day. Every time I feel that way I thank God that I have a bed and I ache for those in this world who do not. We have so much more than we realize.
Even though it was crazy busy, I can't help but feel so excited and thankful to God for blessing the practice the way that He is. We know that it is truly His and not our own, so to see it flourishing is an amazing experience. We feel tremendously blessed each and every day and are so grateful for this opportunity. Our God is so very, very good.
"Let the favor of the Lord our God be upon us, and establish the work of our hands upon us; yes, establish the work of our hands!" Psalm 90:17

    1. Yes! It is awesome most of the time, but sometimes it is SO very hard to maintain a professional relationship at work because we tend to want to say what's on our minds to one another and I hate to admit it's not always very nice when we are in the midst of very stressful circumstances. But, what can I say, I am a work in progress. It is nice to be able to own a business together and be working toward the same goals. Have a wonderful week! xoxo

Also, just for kicks and giggles, where did you get the pillows on that bed? They are fabulous.

    1. Oh girl, it's totally okay to be lazy on a Saturday!!! I would love to be able to be! :) The pillows were a Home Goods purchase when we lived in Savannah in January of 2012. At the time we were so strapped for $$, but my mama and my sister were with me and they convinced me to get them anyway and I'm SO thankful I did. I would have regretted walking away from them every day after that. I've not seen them anywhere else since. Thank you! Have a wonderful day! xoxo
