There were a total of 25 entries for The Pearl Event, and two entries were generated as the winners:
#3 was Amanda Pilkinton and #6 was All About the Armes!! Congratulations to the winners and thank you to all who entered! If for some reason one or both of you are unable to attend please let me know so that I can regenerate another winner who will be able to attend. Otherwise, I will email you and determine the best way to get your tickets to you. I am SO excited and I can't wait to meet some of you there!!
We had a nice, low-key dinner at home last night to celebrate Valentine's Day.
We had salad, spinach linguini with pesto sauce, and steak with sauteed mushrooms. It was so good, but I couldn't finish all of my steak.
This was a sweet moment after I read the card Brandon made for me. It made me cry!
I love homemade cards!
This pug card is the one that said Daddy...it was from the 7 furbabies, there is no baby on the way.
I got Brandon the new James Bond Skyfall and Peter Pan blue-rays. He has been dying to see Skyfall, so of course he had to watch it last night. I am so not into James Bond, but he loves them. I do love Disney movies, and I think we have almost every single one of them. I miss good classic Disney movies.
I finally got my Birthday/Valentine's present in the mail this week. We were only able to find one dealer in the country who had it and was willing to custom dip it, and they were in South Bend, IN. They were great to work with, had great prices, and the gun looks perfect. I am more than pleased with how the entire process went!
It's a custom dipped hot pink Ruger LC 380. I love it! I am clearly not a fan of gun violence, but I've always lived out in the country. We hunt and shoot skeet and target practice. Coyotes are a problem where we live, so we keep a gun near the bed because they come in our yard at night and kill cats and dogs. It's happened to our neighbors. I do have my concealed weapons permit, and the reason I wanted a smaller pistol than the one I was carrying is so that I can fit it into a bag or something if need be. I know some people are totally anti-gun and think it's terrible that someone would carry a gun in their purse or wear it on a holster, but I don't think it's fair to judge everyone on that. Guns don't kill people, people kill people-just like cars don't kill people, the drunk drivers and such kill people. I'm not opposed to having back-ground checks to own a gun.
I travel quite a bit all by myself and I just feel better having some form of protection. I have no intention of ever having to use my gun for self-defense, but I am fully educated on how to if I were in an extreme situation and that was the last resort. Some of you may remember the Gary Michael Hilton-Meredith Emerson Case. That happened just outside of my hometown and on that very same day I dropped Brandon and some of his family off on that very same trail to hike while my mother-in-law and I went to visit some of my family. That case was so horrible and even though Meredith was trained in martial arts and had a dog with her, she ultimately could not defend herself. If she had been carrying a gun she could have. The man that murdered her did similar things to several other people as well. His abuse and violence to her was outrageous and it had a huge effect on everyone in our "safe" little mountain town. So, please do not post comments criticizing me for owning a gun. I actually had someone comment recently and tell me that I was not a Christian because I own a gun...seriously? So, if you disagree with me on guns that's fine. I respect you, you respect me. Right now in this country we still have the right to bear arms, and I am a law abiding, tax-paying citizen so I will use my rights. I have friends and family members from opposite political viewpoints and we still love each other and get along.
Anyway, back to Valentine's Day...
I hope y'all had a lovely day yesterday and that you felt loved no matter if you are single, dating, engaged, married or widowed. The most important thing is that God hasn't forgotten about you and He loves you more than any human ever could. If that doesn't make your heart skip a beat, I don't know what will. And, I love you, too!  We are going to spend the weekend with our best friends and Godsons after work tomorrow and we are so excited-we have a huge surprise for them! This is probably the last full weekend we will get to spend with them before their baby sister, Ellie, arrives in mid-March! I can't wait to get to be there to help welcome the little princess into the world! Have a blessed weekend!! xoxo

  1. that meal looks delicious! I support your rights to own and carry a gun. My fiance would like for me to have my conceal carry and I'm not opposed but due to my job and school I cannot carry it onto those properties. it's frustrating because otherwise we are usually together.

    1. Thank you, Meredith! That would be frustrating, but you know, you don't have to won a gun to have a conceal carry permit. Plus, it took me about 30 min. to apply for my permit, then it arrived in my mailbox 2 weeks later. Then, if you ever do want to purchase a gun, it is so much easier since you already have your permit. It's just nice to have, so maybe you could still get your permit. :) Have a great weekend! xoxo

    2. That's true. I do own a rifle, but that's a little hard to carry in your purse :) In NC we have quite a lot of hoops to jump in order to get the conceal carry permit, biggest of which is taking an 8 hour course & each county had different requirements. We have to pick up our permits at the Sheriffs Office once approved, no mailing. This site has some interesting info about each states laws http://www.usacarry.com/ For NC there are different requirements for owning a handgun vs long gun.

    3. Wow, there are a lot of hoops to jump through in NC!! I can see how that would make it much more of a hassle, which I'm sure is the point of it all. That is good to know, though! Thanks for sharing that! In Georgia we just have to go to our county courthouse and fill out paperwork, then take our paperwork to the local jail and get finger-printed. That's it-our permits come in the mail 2 weeks later! I'm actually surprised that we don't have to take a course to get our permits. Most gun owners take courses anyway, or like me, you get extensive training on the family farm from the men. It amazes me how much Brandon knows about every type of gun, so he is constantly teaching me about it all. One reason he liked the particular model he got me is because it has a safety on it. He made me go to the gun store and try out every model of pistol they had to see which one I could operate the easiest and which one felt the best. That was a little nervewracking, I'll admit, because I simply could not operate one model in particular. But, that's why it's good to go and try several out. I'm very happy with the one I ended up with. It's the perfect size and it's not very heavy.

  2. Im proud you have your concealed! Like you said.. you dont have to own a gun/carry a gun just because you have your concealed. I can't stand those who belittle people for having concealed and owning guns. Im glad you stood up and said your piece about that. It does not not make you a Christian. :) Love reading your blog and love having someone that I can relate to so much about these types of topics.

    1. Thank you, sweet girl! That one comment was so mean and so wrong on so many levels and it really bothered me for a few days. I try so hard to be respectful to others and not to cause any kind of controversy on here, but I am not ashamed of my faith or my rights. I am SO thankful that I have readers and friends like you who understand. That makes up for every mean and negative person out there. Thank you for the encouragement! Have a blessed weekend! xoxo

  3. I love your gun!!! I used to be a little unsure about pink guns, but you've convinced me! I read that horrific story about Gary Hilton years ago- I have not, and will not ever, forget it. Just pure evil.
Love your homemade cards! That's so sweet- I'm glad y'all had a good Valentine's Day!

    1. Thank you, Ashley!! That is so funny because Brandon was totally against me having a pink gun. As a man, he was all concerned about it looking "sissy." But, he finally gave in and he really does love the way mine turned out. Yes, Gary Hilton is a sick individual and unfortunately there are more like him out there. Have a wonderful weekend!! xoxo

  5. I got the same gun for Christmas, only mine is the light pink! I think I have a few pics of it on instagram. Have you shot it yet? I still need to get used to mine, I feel like it has a long trigger pull since there is no safety. Love the hot pink though!!

    1. That's so neat!! I'll have to look on your IG :). I have not shot it yet-it's still a brand new baby. I'm going to shoot it on the farm this weekend, though. Brandon got me plenty of ammo to go with it. Mine actually has a safety on it. Yours may be the LCP model, which is a tad bit smaller than mine. I looked at that model at the gun store, but they said that Ruger just came out with the LC380, which is the same size and same gun as the LC9, but with the smoother recoil of the .380. I have really big hands and the slightly larger size was a better fit for me. The guy at the gun store said it would take several rounds of ammo and breaking in before it would feel really smooth to shoot. Have a great weekend! xoxo

  6. Oh my goodness, that gun is so great. I'm hoping to get my concealed this year, too, but haven't even thought about buying guns. That will come later. Yours was the perfect accessory to your pink Valentine's Day outfit. :)

  8. I just purchased the same pistol yesterday! Not pink though. Thank you for posting your feelings and born in the U.S.A. rights and Christ based faith all wrapped up in a nice calm but unwavering delivery which we as Christians need to do. The word Christian does not mean perfect, neither does it mean doormat.
