Grits Cafe

The Friday night after Valentine's Day we went to eat at a famous local restaurant to celebrate Valentine's Day. Grits Cafe serves high-quality Southern fare in a historic building on the downtown square in Forsyth, GA. Unfortunately, in March 2012 the restaurant caught fire and burned to the ground. After much support from the community, Grits was rebuilt and officially reopened on Saturday February 1st. They were booked solid with dinner reservations for the next 2.5 weeks. Their reopening has brought much needed life back to the downtown square.
We had a fresh lump crab cake appetizer.
 Brandon had Ahi Tuna.
I had Parmesan crusted trout over grits topped with fresh lump crab meat. It was out of this world!
For dessert Brandon had warm bread pudding.
I had banana cream pie. It was like none I've ever had before.

We also went for lunch last Saturday. We were leaving the clinic late as usual, and we were starving. It was 1:52 and they took their last reservation at 2, so we slid in just in time. This restaurant is only 2 blocks form our practice, so it's a little too convenient at times. We had the fried green tomatoes appetizer.
I had a fresh lump crab cake over grits.
 Brandon had shrimp and grits.
They really did a fantastic job rebuilding the restaurant. It still looks very historic and the new details are beautiful.
For dessert Brandon has the cookies n' cream. SO good!
And I had the banana cream pie. The raspberry sauce paired with the creamy bananas was to die for!
The lunch menu has some options that the dinner menu doesn't, such as the Blackened Salmon Sandwich
and the Duck Flatbread, which are both very tasty!
They also have daily Blue Plate specials, which aren't on the regular menu. This restaurant is so wonderful that I have a feeling it's not going to be good for my waistline. If you are ever passing through middle Georgia on I-75 make plans to stop-and let me know if you do so I can meet you! It's only a mile off the interstate and is divine! You will not be disappointed.
