Career Day

Friday was Career Day at the local middle school in our town, so we joined in with several other local business and set up a Career Fair in the gymnasium for the 8th grade students. It's a time where they can walk around ans ask questions to learn about different career options. We decided that it would be a good idea to take Sanford, too. He was a show stopper!
We also took our clinic iPad to show the students some pictures of x-rays. At our practice we have one of the highest quality digital x-ray machines there is, and when we take an x-ray the images go directly to our computers and iPads. We can then take the iPad into the exam room and show the patient's owners the x-ray images. It's really amazing and the detail is crystal clear.
Another object of interest was a 3-D model of a dog's heart with heartworms. It was a great educational tool as over half of the students had no clue as what heartworms are. Here's to preventative medicine! At our practice we encourage client's to consider getting the Proheart 6 heartworm preventative injection. The injection lasts 6 months and is more affordable that chewable heartworm preventatives. It's great because it gives the owners such peace of mind and they don't have to remember to give the monthly chewable, which means the pet is always protected. Here in the South, heartworm disease is rampant because of the humidity as it is transported by mosquitoes. All it takes is one mosquito bite to infect a dog.

My sweet angel was worn out after the career fair. He slept for hours!
Isn't this little girl precious with her plastic Pug toy? She absolutely LOVES Sanford and I think her mama may be getting her her own Pug before long. She is always SO well behaved when she comes in and asks more professional questions than most adults do. Plus, she is so smart and beautiful. She wants to be a Vet when she grows up, and that makes my heart smile!

  1. I can only imagine Sanford being the show stopper! I'm sure the community really appreciates you both taking the time to help inform and educate the growing minds of America. The last photo with the vet in training is precious!

    1. Catherine, thank you for your sweet words! I hope the students will look back someday and appreciate the opportunity that business owners and workers in the community gave each of them by sharing so much advice and direction. Yes, she is a doll! Have a great week! xoxo

  2. I am totally looking into the Proheart 6 preventative! Hope my vet uses it - I feel like a terrible dogmom when I'm late giving the heartworm chewable =\

    1. Meredith, yes, ask your Vet! You will love it once you start going that route because it's so much less to worry about knowing they are fully protected for 6 months straight! She is, she is-love it when she comes in! :) Have a great week! xoxo

  4. That's great to know about the heartworm injection. I'm going to ask my vet about that. I give my 2 golden retrievers the Trifexis tablets. Does the injection have any side effects?

    1. Hey There! Trifexis is great and we recommend it to everyone who doesn't use the injection! Great question-the side effects are exactly the same as the chewable heartworm prevention! :) The Proheart paired with Comfortis is a great option, but depending on your Vet's prices it may or may not be more affordable than just sticking with the Trifexis. Have a great day! xoxo
