Get Healthy, Not Skinny Link Up

I am so excited about our accountability link-up for getting healthy together!
I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a little nervous about this, but I'm willing to give it a try if it will help benefit even one of you. 

If you are new here, you may want to read these two posts first: Healthy, Not Skinny and Eating Clean.

So, how does this link-up work?
This is NOT a diet. This is a lifestyle change. 
Simply link up your blog to a post where you share your ups and downs of the week regarding eating healthy (clean), exercising, and taking care of your body.
You can share healthy recipes, tips, exercises, struggles, prayer requests, etc.
You don't have to weigh in or measure in, but certainly feel free to do so if you want-if it helps you.
The purpose of this link-up is to build accountability, build relationships with others, and learn more about how to take better care of our bodies.
The purpose is to make a commitment to a healthy lifestyle.
This is open to both ladies and gentlemen of all ages, shapes and sizes! Don't have a blog but still want to participate?

This week if you would please introduce yourself and where you're from, state your goals for getting a healthier body and a timeline, and state any questions/concerns/struggles.

Some of you had some other questions after last weeks posts, so I'm going to go ahead and answer those!
1. What do you eat at Chick Fil A?
I usually get a grilled chicken sandwich, but sometimes I just go with it and get a Spicy Chicken (on wheat) because I'm so in love with them. I never order a meal, but my hubby always does so I usually steal a few fries from him. I get a large water, too, because I love their cups. Sometimes I get a cookie, too because they are the bomb. I'm also pretty obsessed with CFA sauce, too. :)
Hey, I only eat it once or twice a month, and I don't eat any other fast food, so I don't feel too guilty about what I order there.

2. How do you handle lunches during the work week? I commute about 30 minutes to work each day and its so much easier go run to subway or togo's and buy a sandwich on my break. Could you do a post about packing lunches? 
 Well, this one is a bit tricky. Since we own our own business we can handle this the way we want.
We have a break room with a microwave, toaster oven, and mini fridge with plenty of cutlery, plates and napkins.
I usually keep bread and other sandwich stuff there so that Brandon can fix a sandwich whenever he gets a chance since his time is so limited.
We keep Fage yogurt in the fridge, bananas and other fruit and granola in the break room, too.
So, my suggestion would be that if at all possible try to keep a stock of things that don't have to be refrigerated at your work. Maybe keep those items in a desk drawer or a Rubbermaid box.
If you have refrigerator access, then label your goods and keep a stock there. 
My best advice is to keep as much as possible as your work location, so that you only have to take a minimal amount with you each day.
Another suggestion would be to make out your lunches for the entire week on Sunday night so that all you have to do is grab them out of the fridge/pantry on your way out the door.

3. I was interested in a rough estimate of how much you spend on food. Do y'all eat out at all, or are you strictly at home eaters unless its a special occasion?
Every week the grocery bill is different depending on what we are out of and what is one sale, but a rough average is about $100 a week. I know that seems like a lot for just 2 people, but that includes 3 meals a day each, plus snacks. 
As far as eating out, we haven't been that strict over the past year because of the nature of our work. 
Generally speaking, we prefer to eat at home simply because it is healthier and more economical.
But, after both working an average of 10 hours a day in a veterinary practice, sometimes we are just too worn out to go home and cook so it's nice to go and sit down somewhere and let someone else serve us and do the dishes. I know that sounds horrible, but it's the truth.
At the beginning of this year we decided to make a meal plan for supper for every night of the week so that we can be sure we aren't wasting money on groceries. Plus, having a menu planned out in advance eliminates the "what do you want for supper...I don't care, whatever you want..." argument, which we became pros at. 
Our goal this year is to only eat out once or twice per week. We don't have set nights that we eat out, but rather it depends on our schedules and how busy we are at work.

4. What do you for your workouts?!
I LOVE Zumba! I also do bootcamp and some weight lifting. More on this topic in another post! :)

Dear Heavenly Father, I thank You for this body you have so graciously loaned to me to do Your good works. I thank You for each person that has come here today to make the commitment to take the very best care of the bodies that You have loaned them as well. I pray that You would bless this lifestyle of eating clean, getting healthier, and exercising more so that we may be better prepared to do any work You may call us to do. I praise You for creating each of the beautiful people who are participating in this journey, and I pray that they would know and believe that they are fearfully and wonderfully made. Forgive us for ever criticizing and abusing what You have created.
In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

  2. Cherish!! Thank you SO much for doing this! We went to our new Publix on Tuesday & stocked up on all things healthy! I made smoothies for us yesterday morning from your recipe, and they were awesome! I made spaghetti last night using the brand you use, and it is our new favorite! Seriously, I am so so excited about our new lifestyle! At work yesterday, I felt like I had so much energy, and I know it's just going to get better & better! Have a great Thursday! :o)

  4. Hi, I'm Ashley from Lexington, Kentucky. This is a great idea! Thanks for setting it up. I have a baby and things are pretty busy, so it will probably take me a couple of days to get a blog post set up. I need the accountability - I have been trying to lose those last 10 baby pounds. I use My Fitness Pal app on my phone and it has been a great way for me to track my calories throughout the day.

    Hey, I'm Sandra! My goal is to lose 50 lbs. by my 51st birthday, which is August 13th. I've lost 7 lbs. in 2 weeks! I went to the gym for the very first time this week. I went 8 miles on the stationary bike in 25 min. the first night, and 9 miles in 25 min. on the second night. I've also learned some arm exercises using 5 lb. dumbells, and I did 25 lbs. on the thigh lift machine. I'm looking forward to losing weight and getting healthy!

    I am trying to lose three stone, and I've signed up for a 10k race in May. I have got back into going to the gym and currently have very painful triceps from a body pump class. I'm going food shopping tomorrow to stock up on some healthy stuff!

  7. Hey, hey! I'm Christina. I currently reside in the bootheel of Missouri but my heart will always be in the volunteer state! I started researching clean eating a few weeks ago and then you posted your post and I was so excited. I've followed your blog for a while and been a silent follower but this brought me out of hiding! In just one week of "clean eating" (I added the quotations since my diet hasn't been completely clean but it has been way better than before I started) I have lost 7 pounds! I have a huge sweet tooth so keeping that in check is my biggest problem but I've done fairly well this past week. So, just wanted to introduce myself and say I'm looking forward to this journey with everyone. Oh, I also have a blog but I rarely update it so I thought I would just leave a comment.
