Celebrating 50 Years

My great uncle and aunt, Gene and Mena, recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary!
Their children, my 2nd cousins, hosted a fabulous party to celebrate last weekend.
Their son, Chris, giving a beautiful toast to his parents.
My great uncle Gene was in the Navy in Naples, Italy in the summer of 1962 where he met my great aunt Mena.
They married in Italy in December of 1962 and have been in love ever since.
Many friends and family members came from near and far to celebrate their love.
Cousins Luca, Rachel and Little Mena.
My great-great aunt Shirley Jenkins McCurry.
It was so sweet listening to the words they wrote each other and the advice they had to give about how to have a lasting marriage.
Mena said you should never go to bed mad and that to always say those three little words, "I am sorry."
I absolutely LOVE these old wedding photos.
They are beautiful and precious.
I have the bottom one framed at my house.
Sweet Baby Alayna. She is the youngest of 4: Bailey, Dakota, and Bella.
Gene and Mena with their children and grandchildren.
Such a beautiful family!
Gene dancing with his aunt, my great-great aunt.
Gene dancing with his sister, Judy.
Little Mena coloring.
My cousin Emma. She is absolutely beautiful.
She was the flower girl in our wedding 6 1/2 years ago and now she's in the 3rd grade.
Makes me so sad!
Me, my cousin Amanda (Emma's mom), and my sister.
We used to play together all the time when we were little girls and now we're all grown up.
It seems like just yesterday we were playing at our own great grandparents' 50th wedding anniversary party.
There was a lot of dancing going on! So much fun!
I love these pictures of my sister with Alayna, mostly because she looks so happy holding that baby even though she doesn't want her own kids. Who knows...she may change her mind someday. ;)
Of course, I had to get some pictures with Alayna because I am the oldest great grandchild and she is the youngest as of right now. We are just over 26 years apart.
There are 21 great grandchildren and another one on the way-a boy named Everett due in February!!!
What a legacy for this side of our family!
{I'm going to attempt to name us all in order: Cherish, Tiffany, Josh, Courtney, Sarah, Anna, Rachel, Mitchell, Bailey, Logan, Dakota, Kevin, Emma, Luca, Leamon, Nathan, Abby, Mena, Ozzy, Bella, Alayna, Everett.}
All the kids had a ball!
Between laughing, dancing, and pillow fights everyone was all smiles and no tears!
Bella never stopped! She was right in there with those big boys.
Abby eating her cake!
 Twins: Mena and Ozzy
Still dancing the night away!
Luca, Mitchell and Dakota
What a wonderful celebration of a true love story.
Their commitment to each other hasn't just influenced their immediate family, but extended family and friends alike.
Unfortunately not all of our family was able to make it.
This is a busy time of year and many folks are sick.
At the end of the day it doesn't matter if we have the same views or live the same lifestyle, the important thing is that we can put those differences aside and enjoy the things we have in common, our blood.
I love each and every single person in my family for who they are and I am thankful for the memories we've all shared and the things we've learned along the way.
This celebration was very special to my sister and me because we will never get to have one of these parties for our own grandparents or parents because of divorce.
Lord willing, she and I will just have to have our own celebrations together in another 45 years :).
We thank Gene and Mena for showing us what it means to be in love and to be dedicated through good times and bad.
We are thankful for our families.

  1. Cherish, my daughter-in-love got me hooked on your blog and I just adore it. Love the way you are such a faith-filled Jesus loving family oriented young lady! I teach 12th grade English and my heart is to see young women with a passion for the Lord. I made my 16 year old look at your blog and read about dressing modestly. She can relate to the tall and thin! You never realize who you can influence on here! Enjoy you so much, check out my bunch over at gigiandallherpeeps.blogspot.com
    Have a blessed day!

    1. Michelle-you made my week. You are precious. I love that you said daughter-in-love!! She is one lucky gal to have you in her life!! Thank you for the words of encouragement and for your thoughtful words written from the heart. Sometimes when I get afraid to post some of the things on my heart, it seems like I always get a comment or an email such as this, and it reminds me that there is still work to be done in His name. You are right-you never know who you are influencing. I read a quote the other day that said something along the lines of, "It's not about trying not to sin, but focusing so much on Jesus that sin isn't an option." I think that is so true, and if we can do that then we can influence others in magnificent ways. Anyway, thank you again. You have blessed me. I'll be sure and visit your bunch soon! :) Hope you had a very Happy New Year! xoxo

  2. Yay! 50 years! Can you imagine?! That's so awesome. I was just posting myself about marriage and family history and the things marriages endure over time. Congrats to them! :)

    1. It is really and truly amazing. I have some major blog reading (catching up) to do, so I am looking forward to reading it! :)

I sure do love hearing from y'all-you make my day!
