Farm Life Friday: Goodbye, Annie

One of the two farm dogs where we live passed away yesterday evening in my arms.
We had a feeling it was coming because when we got back home from Christmas vacation we couldn't find her anywhere.
After several days of searching we found her curled up in some tall grass out in one of the pastures.
She had lost about 10-12 lbs. since we had last seen her.
Brandon carried her back to the house and brought her inside.
We got the other farm dog, Sweety, to come inside, too, because we wanted them to spend some precious time together.
Sweety on the left, Annie on the right.
Annie refused food and water, so we knew she didn't have much longer.
The next day when I got home from work I could tell Annie was going go any minute.
Brandon had planned to bring home something to put her down in the even that she was suffering.

When I got home I just brushed her and sang to her and she took her last breath there in my arms.
That was my first experience with a pet/or anything dying in my arms.
I sobbed and sobbed until I could not get my breath.
I am so glad that Annie is now in a place where she is young and vibrant and can live happily again.
Yes, I believe animals go to Heaven.
I couldn't watch Brandon bury her. He had a hard time doing it.
It just isn't the same without Annie around the farm.
I miss seeing her "propeller tail" run alongside of my car when I come home from work.
But, I know she's running free in a better place.
These are some pictures of you were you were healthy and happy.
After one of your summer haircuts!
Annie, we love you and we miss you.
Thank you for all the wonderful memories.

  2. So sad- brought tears to my eyes for you!

As a momma to 2 precious puppies- I can feel your pain. I am so sorry for your loss.

And I 100% agree that God wouldn't give us sweet animals that bring us so much joy if they didn't go to Heaven :)

I am sure it was tough to hold her during those last moments-But I'm also sure she left this world with a warm heart from being so loved.

    Sending you hugs!

  5. A dog has no use for fancy cars, big homes, or designer clothes.
A water log stick will do just fine.
A dog doesn't care if you’re rich or poor, clever or dull, smart or dumb.
Give him your heart and he'll give you his.
How many people can you say that about?
How many people can make you feel rare and pure and special?
How many people can make you feel extraordinary?
    ...
Praying for you and your loss.
