Visit with Granny

After we had lunch at the Blue Willow Inn on Sunday we drove down to Monticello, GA, to visit my Granny who is in assisted living down there.
It's unfortunate that she is so far from everyone and that no one is able to care for her in their home.
Mark my words, my own mother will never ever be put somewhere.
I don't care what I have to give up or sacrifice, it will be worth it in the end.
I digress.
We had a really good visit with my Granny. She will be 88 in January.
Her birthday is just 3 days before mine.
My mother is her oldest grandchild and I am her oldest great-grandchild.
This woman has more strength than anyone else I know.
Brandon will have his hands full if I am a third of the woman she is.
She kept showing us her watch that my Nana gave her.
We thought it would be fun for her to see our dogs and she loved them!!
She was so sweet and wanted to hold them like babies.
It was so precious!
Sanford is heavier than Molly and I was so afraid he might hurt her if he got too heavy, which is why I look like a hover mother in these pictures.
I am so not that-I am happy to share my babies with anyone who wants to hold or love on them, but I just didn't want him to accidentally hurt Granny.
Pugs are such wonderful dogs for many reasons, but these photos capture one of the major reasons I love them so much.
They are so good with elderly people, babies and children.
Sanford was so gentle and sweet with her-look at his paws!
Melts my heart!
Animals do such good for elderly people.
They lower blood pressure, reduce stress and anxiety, and provide unconditional love and companionship.
Granny does so well in her wheelchair-she is strong in many ways.
Granny loved her meal from the Blue Willow Inn!
We haven't seen her eat that much food in a while!
She loved those fried green tomatoes!
I also baked a pound cake to take to her and her roommate. They seemed to enjoy it, too.
While we were in Athens, mama and I went shopping and got a little Christmas tree with ornaments and a star to take to her room to decorate for Christmas.
Tiffany and I got it all fixed up for her!
I want to remember her as clearly as possible, which is why I try to take such detailed pictures.
I hate goodbyes. Y'all know that.
It's so much harder when you aren't sure when or if you will see the other person again.
I pray that she knows just how loved and appreciated she is despite her circumstances.
I wish I could bring her home with us and care for her day in and day out.
It would thrill my soul.
I hope she is fully aware of the legacy she has created and left.
I thank her for her love and laughter.
I will always cherish this day.
I am thankful.
“And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.” Colossians 3:17

  1. what a special day! I am so glad you were able to spend time with your Granny!

  2. I live near Monticello, and I had to go to a business meeting there a few months ago. It was the first time I had ever been there, and I was very impressed with the nice people. I got lost finding the place, so I found a nice policeman who gave me an escort to where I thought the meeting was. When we got there, the meeting had been moved, so he got out his cell phone and called the lady in charge (because he just happened to know her and have her phone number). Then he gave another escort out to where the meeting was. That's why I love small towns :)

  3. What a precious post! You had my eyes watering, my great grandmother is 93, she lives in GA & us in Fl, and I don't get to see her as often as I'd like so I can totally relate. Looks like you had a wonderful time of fellowship though and those memories will last a lifetime.

    Happy Thanksgiving,
    Your newest follower :)

  4. This is adorable, Cherish! It sounds like you had a wonderful visit!
