Spirit Week...

...in more ways than one!

**First of all, I want to thank each one of you who commented on my "Why I Blog" post. I responded to every one of you that I could through email (without a no-reply@blogger.com address). I was truly touched by your words and my cup runneth over. xoxo**

It's Homecoming week at the local Christian school, which also means it's Spirit Week!
The kids I keep have been going all out to celebrate.
It has been a blast watching them get so excited over getting to wear fun and crazy outfits rather than their school uniforms.
Monday was Tacky Day
Tuesday was Flashback Day. Wednesday was Assigned Color Day. Today is Camo Day.

Another reason I have been so short on spare time this week is because I've added to my babysitting lineup!
I will be helping out with another friend's little boys some mornings and afternoons.
It's not every day, but it's still work that I am thankful for.
Y'all know I'm so not a morning person, so getting to their house between 6:45 and 7 is a huge stretch for me.
But, when I get there and see their smiling faces and have such pleasant conversations before school, it makes it so worth it.
Banks is 3 and Bradley is 5.
Monday night I kept all 4 kids together until 8:15, which was a blast.
During that time Parker had a 2 hour football practice, so we spent a lot of time running around at the park and rec.
I've never wavered on wanting at least 4 kids someday, and keeping these 4 reminded me why.
Polly also has dance on Tuesday afternoons.
Keeping up with Spirit Week, I have also joined a women's Bible study: Beth Moore's updated version of Breaking Free, on Wednesday nights with several women, these included.
I am so excited about this as I have done other Bible studies on freedom from bondage and strongholds and I always benefit so much from them.
A few points we learned in our first session are:
-Bondage is anything that hinders what God has called us to be.
-Christ's disciples are meant to be profoundly effective. That includes you and me.
-Strongholds always lead to isolation.
-We have divine power to demolish strongholds.

Brandon and I also joined a couple's Bible study on Fireproof (which we've already done, but are excited to do it again) on Thursday nights.
We are excited to fellowship and grow in the Word with other couples again!
Though there have been a few rough spots throughout this week, I have been reminded that I am, in fact, where God has called me to be. That we both are.
Knowing that is just enough to keep us going.
I feel so blessed and honored that God has allowed me to be in the care of such precious children.
Having an impact on their lives is of utmost importance to me, so I am humbled by this opportunity.
He knows how much I love and adore children.
I have always felt like He will bless us with our own in His time, meanwhile He just keeps entrusting me with the care of other children.
My heart grows bigger with each child.
I am so grateful for that.

I was thinking back and counting all of the little ones I've kept over the years, and the number comes to 14.
14 children I've kept on a regular basis over the past 9 years.
14 lives I've loved and cared for.
And He's blessed us with 2 Godsons.
That's not counting cousins or siblings.
I'm overwhelmed by the goodness of that.
We are certainly feeling the Spirit this week!

"And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose."
Romans 8:28

  3. These kids are all just too darn cute! I love the tacky day outfits too, they are perfect for the theme! I think that you will be a great Momma one day to 4 (or more) children-God willing. Not everyone has enough time, love, and patience to handle 4 kiddos but I think you were made for it! Enjoy babysitting!

  4. Hi! I just wanted to let you know your post really hit home with me. I babysit 3 times a week for a 10 year old boy who has ADHD and an 8 year old girl. They drive me crazy! But this post made me really have patience with them today and listen to their needs as children. So thanks for sharing and making my day a little easier :)

  5. Oh how sweet! I loved spirit week, it was definitley one of my favorite parts of the school system. Although we still have spirit weeks in college, they are't as fun as being a kid. :)

I loved fireproof..my mother actually bought the book and the movie, my dad is a fire fighter so we thought it would fit perfectly with our family and how we react within each other..especially my parents who have being happily married for almost 28 years. :)

  7. Ohhhh those littles are soooooo stinking cute! I've always wanted 4 children, until I moved to CA and babysat for a family that now has 4 children. I was babysitting 3 of them (the other was still "baking" at this point) and they're 4 and under. At that point I knew I either had to space them out some more or that 3 was enough-lol.

I'm glad that you're getting involved and meeting some friends. It's great to be busy and I'm sure it'll make the world of a difference on being homesick. I've been praying for y'all because I know the feeling and it's never pleasant (even if you don't experience on a day to day). I hope this is just what you need.

    Have a fabulous day!
